MIAA Recognizes Albion's Publicity Effort

A September 2012 feature telling the story of Zach Brewer’s game-winning touchdown catch in Albion’s upset over nationally-ranked Wheaton (Ill.) has been selected for the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s Robin Hartman Writing Award.

The story, written by Director of News and Sports Information Bobby Lee, tells how Brewer dedicated the game to his late mother, who died in a traffic accident two years ago. The Wheaton game fell the day before Heidi Brewer’s birthday. (Click here to read the story)

An Albion story has been selected as the winner of the Hartman award the last two years. Zach Dirlam, ’13, won the 2012 award for his feature about Briton running back Clinton Orr.

A native of Gahanna, Ohio, Lee joined the Albion marketing and communications staff in 2001. He previously was the sports information director at Muskingum University and a graduate assistant in the Ohio State University athletic publicity department. While there, he was editor of the Ohio State football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball programs that received publication awards from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Hartman Award honors outstanding writing in a sports information capacity, either by a sports information director or assistant, at MIAA schools. Hartman served as sports information director at Albion from 1987-2001.
