Matt Arend Albion College Athletics will have a new identity moving forward, as I unveiled a new set of logos and word marks that provide the Britons with a consistent, distinctive presence in all visual platforms. The college engaged Ologie, an agency based in Columbus, Ohio, to work with college staff on developing  a campus-wide marketing initiative of which the athletic marks are a part.

While the traditional block ‘A’ continues to be the centerpiece of the new visual presence, it has been locked up with ALBION in block lettering. In addition, the Briton mascot, introduced at the start of the 2011-2012 academic year, can be used as a secondary mark.

Albion has a proud athletic tradition, and we did not want to diminish that by dismissing the block ‘A’. I believe the new marks will make the impression that Albion is continuing to build on that tradition.

The new marks will be phased in, beginning with the Web site and electronic communications.

Apparel and gifts sporting the new marks continue to arrive at the Albion College Bookstore.

In addition to the visual identity, Albion Athletics is launching new home on the internet, The Web site, in partnership with Presto Sports, will be the place to find news, scores, and schedules for all 21 varsity programs.

“We are making a bold statement with our athletic branding initiative,” John Thompson, the college’s associate vice president for marketing, said. “With the help of Ologie, our creative consultant, we have established a strategy that encompasses all of Albion College, and athletics was a focal point. Consistency was paramount in our process, and with a new Web site, literature, logo, color scheme and attire, we plan to build our brand in a short period of time. This branding effort is a step in the right direction for Briton Athletics.”
