Albion College second baseman Davin Montgomery and pitcher Craig Conway swept the first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week awards in baseball, league publicist Greg Chandler announced Tuesday.
Montgomery, a junior from Northville, hit .522 (12-for-32) in six games played in Florida during spring break. He scored 12 runs, drove in nine runs, and compiled a .695 slugging percentage. He produced four multi-hit games in the sunshine state, including a 4-for-5 performance with two runs scored against St. Norbert College and a 3-for-5 day with two runs scored against Waynesburg University.
Conway, a first-year student from Mancelona, enjoyed a sparkling debut at the collegiate level with a complete game victory over Greenville College. He scattered two runs on seven hits and two walks in the Britons' 16-2 victory.
Albion is scheduled to make its northern debut at 4:15 p.m. Thursday with a home non-league game against Bluffton University. The Britons are scheduled to play their first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association series this weekend with a home-and-home doubleheader against Kalamazoo College. The teams are scheduled to meet at Albion's Frank Joranko Field at 1 p.m. Saturday and at Homer Stryker Field in Kalamazoo at 1 p.m. Sunday.
