Albion College scholar-athletes claimed the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Position Player and Pitcher of the Week awards for the second week in a row, league publicist Greg Chandler announced Monday.
Right fielder Adam Mazza gained the nod as the position player, and Kyle Cassidy the pitcher's award in the wake of the Britons' four-game sweep of league rival Kalamazoo College at Frank Joranko Field.
Mazza, a senior from Macomb who prepped at Dakota High School, hit .583 in the series with five runs scored and five runs batted in. He also drew five walks and was hit by a pitch to raise his on-base percentage to .684.
Cassidy, a junior from Naperville, Ill., threw the Britons' first shutout of the season in the 14-0 victory in the second game of the Saturday doubleheader. He finished a complete-game five-hitter with a career-high 10 strikeouts.
Albion, which improved to 6-6 on the season with its weekend sweep, hosts Ohio Northern University at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday for a non-league doubleheader. The Britons begin a four-game series with league rival Trine University with a home doubleheader at 2 p.m. Friday.
