Jordyn Finney, Albion College's first-year catcher from Oxford, Mich., has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Position Player of the Week for baseball games played from March 6-11.
Finney, who prepped at Cranbrook High School, helped Albion win all five of its spring break games in Florida. Albion returned from spring break with a 6-2 record after going 1-2 in a three-game series at Franklin College played March 3-4.
He got the attention of the selection committee by throwing out seven of the 10 runners who tried to steal. He caught four runners trying to steal in the Britons 8-5 victory over Penn State-Abington last Thursday and two in the 8-0 victory over Muskingum (Ohio) University on Saturday.
Finney was just as effective at the plate, hitting a team-best .444 with a double, triple and eight runs batted in. He drew three walks and was hit by a pitch to raise his on-base percentage to .500.
He produced three multi-hit games and had at least two RBI in three games, as well.
"Jordyn played great offensively and defensively," Albion Head Coach Scott Carden said. "He threw great and that helped us shut down the opponent's running game."
Albion is scheduled to make its debut in the new Champions Stadium at Frank Joranko Field at 1 o'clock Saturday with a doubleheader against Defiance (Ohio) College.
