For the first time in Albion College history, the hunt seat team was champion of its region which qualified them to compete as a team at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Zone 6 Championships in Morgantown, W. Va., on April 6. Two Albion riders, Brittney Stanton and Katie Pickworth, also qualified to compete as individuals at the competition.
Although competition was fierce, the Briton riders put forth a gallant effort. Pickworth came away with a third place finish out of 10 other individual riders in the Walk-Trot division, just one placing shy of qualifying for Nationals. Team co-captain Miranda Voege received second place in the Open Fences Collegiate Cup, and Meredith Michalec won second place in the Novice Fences Collegiate Cup.
All in all, the entire team was pleased to have made it as far as they did this season. While IHSA Nationals remain just out of reach for this year, the riders that will return to the team next year have a better understanding of what it will take to make it in 2014.
