BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Sophomore Jake Hinkle produced another fine round with a 79 at Bedford Valley Country Club to lead the Albion College men's golf team to a 320 total which was good for a sixth place finish at the second of six Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamborees. The Britons finished just seven shots behind Adrian College.
Matt Falls came in tied with Hinkle with another 79 to add to the team score. Leading the Britons as an individual was Jim Chapman with a solid round of 78. Feeling a little on the low side, senior Connor Maddalena was able to produce an 83 which is not his normal at the course.
"Unfortunately our senior leader Connor Maddalena was battling a pretty serious head cold, so he wasn't able to deliver his usual best. I was happy to see Jim Chapman shoot 78, though as an individual his score didn't count," Head Coach Jordan McArleton said. "Frankly today wasn't our best performance, but no one packed it in and really let it get away from us and shoot a terrible score."
Battling to the final jamboree of the season, the Britons are lurking up on Adrian for the fifth spot in the conference. Needing to get into the top four, the Britons will keep producing scores throughout the season and see what comes of it.
"We're still close to fifth place Adrian College which will move us up in the standings, and we host our home course in two weeks, where we hope to utilize some local knowledge."
Todd Mieske was the low man today from Trine University with an impressive 5-under 67.
Up next for the Briton golfers is a two-day tournament at The Grande in Jackson hosted by Adrian College on Friday and Saturday.
