Record Crowd for Free Kids Golf Clinc

With spring fast approaching, a record 94 kids participated in the free kids golf clinic sponsored by Albion College's Student Athlete Activity Committee on Saturday March 18th.

Aspiring golfers from ages 4-11 each took their turn putting, chipping and working on their full swings under the watchful eyes of coaches McArleton and Maas and many student-athletes from the men's and women's golf teams.

"It's always inspiring to see how infectious it can be for kids to hit one great shot or sink a putt. If the game was a little more accessible and a little more kid-friendly, I think it would be more popular, and I think this clinic is an excellent example of that," said Coach McArleton, the head men's and women's golf coach.

One new initiative worth highlighting aimed at kids is the Youth on Course, an organization that provides kids from 6-18 years old the opportunity to play at a number of courses in the state of Michigan for only $5. Kids pay a membership fee of $5, then $5 for each round they play. It gives kids otherwise unable to a chance to play golf affordably.

Coach Maas, the assistant men's and women's coach, just loves the experience.

"Seeing the smile on a kids face when they hit a great ball is irreplaceable. I'm excited to be a part of something that brings kids happiness."

The SAAC sponsored clinics continue Saturday March 25th hosted by the men's and women's soccer teams.
