Albion College men's lacrosse players Dylan Neal and Jeremy Simms swept the first set of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week awards for the 2013 season league publicist Greg Chandler announced Wednesday.
Neal, a first-year player from Brighton who prepped at Detroit Catholic Central, scored three goals and assisted on another in Albion's 9-6 season-opening loss to Carthage (Wis.) College on Sunday. Five of his eight shots were placed on goal.
Simms, a senior from Montrose who prepped at Flint Powers Catholic, won 13 of 16 face-offs to earn the league's defensive player of the week award. He also scooped up 10 ground balls.
"Dylan and Jeremy helped to make it a competitive game Sunday," Albion Coach Jake DeCola said. "It was a one-goal game in the fourth quarter."
Albion continues non-league play indoors at Detroit Country Day Saturday when it challenges Kenyon (Ohio) College.
