Pressprich Nets MIAA Award
Carl Pressprich led the defensive effort Sunday that helped Albion College gain an 8-7 victory over Augustana College in non-league men's lacrosse action. Pressprich was rewarded Monday by being named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
A junior from Ann Arbor who prepped at Father Gabriel Richard High School, Pressprich caused six turnovers and pounced on five ground balls.
"A huge team defensive effort gave our offense a chance to win the game in overtime," Albion Coach Jake DeCola said. "Carl had a dominant performance out there for us after he dialed it in early in the first period. He was extremely valuable creating turnovers and transitioning the ball to offense. He had three or four one-man clears to get the ball coast-to-coast to the attack earning the nickname 'the human clear' for the day. His leadership and composure was pivotal as we played with a pretty banged up group and almost no substitutes on defense.
"Carl also helped lead the man-down unit, holding Augustana to just 1 of 7 on their attempts," DeCola added.
Albion, 4-3 on the year, continues non-league action Wednesday at 7 p.m. when it challenges DePauw University.
