Albion first-year face-off specialist Cameron Clements has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Defensive Player of the Week in men's lacrosse in the wake of the Britons' 8-5 victory over Augustana (Ill.) College last Saturday.
A product of Seaholm High School, Clements won 11-of-13 draws as Albion's offense mounted a significant time of possession advantage. He also scooped up nine ground balls.
"It made it easier to stay in rhythm on offense with the way Cameron was winning face-offs," Albion Head Coach Jake DeCola said. "Knowing there was a good chance we would have the ball on offense gave our guys a lot of confidence.
"Cameron was one of the team's top academic performers in his first semester and I am proud of the work he's doing on and off the field," DeCola added.
Off to a 3-1 start, Albion received votes in the March 3 Division III poll released by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. The Britons have a challenging month ahead, however, with its next four contests on the road. Albion's next contest is a Wednesday date against Oberlin (Ohio) College on the campus of John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio.
