Matt Lowes has held his assignment scoreless the last three games – helping Albion College complete an undefeated run against its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals for the third year in a row – to gain the league's Defensive Player of the Week award for the first time this season and the second time in his career.
A junior who prepped at Vicksburg High School, Lowes caused two turnovers and scooped four ground balls in Albion's 19-8 victory over Hope College last Tuesday and caused a turnover and collected two ground balls in Albion's 17-9 victory over Olivet College last Friday.
"Matt works extremely hard," Albion Head Coach Jake DeCola said. "He has done a great job all season. He is a junior captain, and he really has done well handling this responsibility all year while still getting the job done on the field for us."
Albion, which completed the regular season 13-3 overall, will open the MIAA Tournament at home Thursday night with a 7 o'clock game against Olivet.
