Albion Advances In MIAA MLAX Tournament

ALBION, Mich. – Zach Hubbell scored two goals and Alec Palmer added a goal and an assist in the second quarter to send Albion College on its way to a 9-6 victory over Olivet College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men's Lacrosse Tournament semifinal game.

Zach Sanders' unassisted goal staked Olivet to a 3-1 lead with 9:15 left in the second quarter.

The Albion offense erupted over the final seven minutes of the quarter as the Britons scored five times. Nicolas Bowman and John Cooke tacked on unassisted scores during the rally.

Albion opened a 6-3 lead on Alec Palmer's man-advantage goal in the first minute of the third quarter.

Albion's lead melted to 7-5 as Trevor Bailey and Nino Minaudo scored for Olivet.

The Britons protected the lead, receiving goals from Jacob Swift with five seconds left in the third quarter and Cooke early in the fourth.

First-year goalkeeper Trevor McManus frustrated the Olivet attack by collecting 12 saves and Kyle DeCamp kept Albion in possession by winning 16-of-18 face-offs.

Albion (14-3) will meet Alma College, an 11-10 victor over Hope College in the other tournament semifinal, for the tournament championship and the league's automatic qualification to the NCAA Division III Championship Saturday night at 7.
