The Albion College men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw with Alma College and scored a 1-0 victory over Adrian College to earn the right to play for a berth in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men's Soccer Tournament when it travels to Grand Rapids Tuesday to challenge league-leading Calvin College.
Charles Micunek, who serves as one of the team captains, was singled out for the MIAA's Defensive Player of the Week award. The junior from Granger, Ind., led an Albion defense that limited Adrian to five shots and also assisted on the game's only goal.
"Charles is a fantastic leader and there is no coincidence that we've done so well defensively over our last four games," Albion Coach Jerry Block said, noting that three of the last four opponents have not scored. "Charles has stepped up and commanded us in the back."
