Guindi, Gurnee Advance In MIAA Flighted Tournament
HOLLAND, Mich. – Jonathan Gurnee and Eric Guindi each won two matches Friday to advance to the semifinals of the 'A' singles bracket in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Flighted Tournament.
Gurnee defeated Adrian's Michael Mertz 6-3, 6-4 and Kalamazoo's David DeSimone 7-5, 6-3. He will faceTrine's Caleb Knust in the semifinal round.
Guindi made quick work of Alma's Phil Ryskamp 6-1, 6-1 and Kalamazoo's Bo Hudson 6-2, 6-3 to reach the semifinal where he will meet Hope's Bobby Cawood.
In doubles, Guindi and Gurnee earned a 8-2 win over a team from Adrian but they would up losing to a team from Calvin in the second round. Ross Kynast and Troy Pozolo won a back draw match in the 'B' doubles bracket.
Kynast and Will Pearl each won their first round matches and wound up losing in the second round of the 'B' flight bracket.
