Britons Take SoCal

WHITTIER, Calif. – Whittier College went on a four-goal scoring binge during a six-minute span of the second half to finally subdue a pesky challenge from Albion College in a non-league women's lacrosse contest Wednesday night. Shaina Denny and Lily Baxter combined for the goals as the host Poets hung on for a 21-16 victory over the Britons.

Ashley Glenn, Kadie Koolwick, Mackenzie Novak, and Julie Wood produced two goals each as Albion forged a 9-9 tie with 2 ½ minutes left in the first half.

Denny and Daniella Delledera produced two goals apiece as Whittler scored five times to surge to a 14-9 lead with 24 minutes remaining in regulation.

Glenn fueled an Albion rally, scoring four times in five minutes. She buried a pair of free position shots and her unassisted goal cut the Briton deficit to 17-15 with 11:40 to play.

That was as close as Albion would get as Whittier made its final scoring run to seal the victory.

Glenn scored six times on 10 shots, and Koolwick produced five goals on 10 shots.

Albion will complete its trip to Orange County, Calif., with a Friday contest against Chapman University.
