Albion sweeps the final MIAA Player of the Week awards in women's lacrosse

Albion College student-athletes gained a sweep of the final Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week awards of the women's lacrosse season.

Cassandra Reuschlein, a senior attacker from Linden, Mich., deposited a career-high eight goals in Albion's 18-8 victory over Saint Mary's College last Friday to gain the Offensive Player of the Week award for the first time in her career. She scored on eight of the 12 shots she took in the game and also chipped in with an assist.

Jenina Villabroza, the sophomore goalkeeper from Glendale, Calif., collected 14 saves (three shy of her season-high) against Saint Mary's to gain the Defensive Player of the Week award for the first time in her career. The Belles rolled in averaging 16 ½ goals per game to rank among the leading scoring teams in NCAA Division III; however, Villabroza stopped 64 percent of the shots she faced.

Albion, 11-4 overall and 7-1 against MIAA rivals during the regular season, has a 5 p.m. Wednesday date with the same Saint Mary's squad in the semifinal round of the MIAA Tournament. Admission - $7 for general admission and $5 for non-MIAA students – will be charged at the entrance to the Davis Athletic Complex. MIAA faculty and students must present their ID card to be admitted free.
