The Albion College women's lacrosse program is celebrating its first all-Great Lakes Region first team pick and third time it placed two Britons on the all-region teams announced today by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association.
Taylor Nelson, a defender from Simi Valley, Calif., who graduated with a degree in exercise science earlier this month, represents Albion on the first team, while goalkeeper Jenina Villabroza, a sophomore from Glendale, Calif., was a second team pick.
Nelson, a product of Chaminade Prep, and Villabroza were the leaders of the defense that allowed an average of 7 ¼ goals per contest, a figure that ranks 21st among NCAA Division III teams.
Individually, Nelson collected 71 ground balls, a single-season record at Albion, and 12th among players in Division III. Nelson also checks in at No. 10 in Division III with 55 caused turnovers.
Villabroza was among the top 25 players in Division III with a 7.60 goals against average (17th) and a .523 save percentage (25th).
Under the direction of head coach Shanta Loecker, Albion achieved an 11-5 overall record and finished second in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
