ANGOLA, Ind. – Kristin Nelson won the triple jump with a leap of 35' 6 ½" and finished runner-up in the long jump and Ashley Miracle and Amanda Weaver finished runner-up in their respective running events as Albion's women's track & field athletes got their first look at their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals in an indoor meet at Trine University.
Nelson soared 10.83 meters on her second attempt in the triple jump. She won the event by more than a foot over Hilary Banning of Calvin.
Cassandra Ciaravino of Olivet edged Nelson by ¾ of an inch in the long jump. Ciaravino hit 17' 7 1/2" on her first attempt, while Nelson reached 17' 6 ¾" on her third.
Miracle completed the 800 meters in 2:23.14, while Weaver crossed the finish line in the 5,000 meters in 18:17.40.
Monique Langston had a busy day, finishing 4th in the 60 meters (8.4 seconds) and as a member of the Britons' 4x200 relay team with Nelson, Camille Sawicki, and Rhiki Swinton, and eighth in the 200 meters.
"Monique and all of our first-year athletes have come a long way in three weeks," Albion Coach Lance Coleman said. "This meet gives us something to build on in the two weeks until our first outdoor meet (March 9 in Birmingham, Ala.)."
