As the school record holder in the heptathlon, Albion College senior Kristin Nelson can arguably be hailed as the Britons' finest female athlete in track & field. She will have an opportunity to add to her career this weekend as she heads to LaCrosse, Wis., to compete in the NCAA Division III Championship.
Nelson achieved the 15th-best score of the 22 qualifying athletes when she amassed 4,521 points in the Gregory Invitational May 14-15. She turned in personal records in the javelin throw (106' 11") and the 800 meters (2:24.20) and she lowered the school record in the 100-meter hurdles to 15.66 seconds.
The NCAA Championship heptathlon competition will be contested May 24-25. Athletes will compete in the 100 hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 200 meters Thursday. Friday events include the long jump, javelin throw, and 800 meters.
