Morrison, Shaw Qualify For NCAA Outdoor Track Championship

Seniors Angela Morrison and Jessica Shaw will represent Albion College in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships this week.

Morrison, a Westland, Mich., native who prepped at Lutheran Westland High School, set a school-record total of 4,650 points at North Central College last week to qualify in the heptathlon. Her score was boosted by achieving the second-best high jump (5' 3 ¾") and 200-meter dash (25.81 seconds) in Albion history. She also set personal records in the long jump (17' 8 ¼") and 800 meters (2:22.38).

Morrison will be competing in a NCAA Championship event for the second time this year. She finished 10th in the pentathlon during the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in March.

Shaw, from Allegan, Mich., qualified in the 10,000 meters when she completed her April race at Bucknell University in 36:09.91. She went on to achieve all-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association status, winning the event in 37:30.84.

An All-American in cross country, Shaw will compete in a NCAA Championship event for the fifth time in her career. A three-time NCAA qualifier in cross country, Shaw qualified for the outdoor championship in the 10,000 meters last year with a qualifying time of 35:45.91.

The SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, will be the venue for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Shaw's 10,000-meter race is set for a 9:45 start Thursday morning. Morrison's heptathlon competition begins Thursday with the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200-meter dash events. Morrison completes the heptathlon competition on Friday with the long jump, javelin throw and 800 meters.
