GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Albion College ran into a buzzsaw Tuesday night in the form of top-ranked Calvin College. Calvin defeated Albion 25-6, 25-15, 25-16.
Albion forged its only leads in the third set. The Britons ripped off three consecutive points on two Calvin attack errors and an Ami Milligan kill to hold a 3-2 edge. Calvin went on a four-point binge to run out to a 6-3 lead, but Albion did not let the Knights pull away early in the set. Lauren Outwater knocked down one of her four kills in the match and served up an ace as the Britons held a 10-9 lead. Calvin scored the next eight points and it went on to complete the sweep.
Calvin finished the contest with a .362 hitting percentage. Maggie Kamp, who led all players with 14 kills, hit .407. Laura Danhoff, a .500 hitter on the night, produced 10 kills and a solo block.
Next up for Albion is a Friday night date against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Kalamazoo College. The first serve is set for 7 p.m.
