Albion Gets Defensive Against Nation's Top-Ranked Team

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College Coach Kristin Slamer de St. Aubin said her team could not have played much better defense than it did Tuesday night.

That defense could not prevent Hope College, the top-ranked team in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III poll, from gaining its seventh three-set sweep in eight matches this season. The Flying Dutch needed a little more than an hour to earn a 25-17, 25-13, 25-16 victory.

Erin Romph, a setter on the Briton roster, led the defensive effort with 11 digs. Albion's starting setter, Ami Milligan, collected eight digs.

Stephanie Thurner led Albion in scoring with seven kills and a pair of blocks. Lauren Outwater produced five kills and assisted on a block.

Albion hits the road for its next Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association contest, a Friday date at Alma College.
