Britons Stopped In Four Sets

ALMA, Mich. – Albion College was unable to hold an early lead in a four-set loss to Alma College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association volleyball contest Friday night.

Albion won the first set, 25-15, as the Britons took advantage of five Alma attack errors and a service error to pull away after the score was tied 8-8 early on. Caitlin McClorey produced four of her five kills in the match in the set.

Alma had seven hitting errors the rest of the match as it claimed the final three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-11, and 25-15.

Albion had an opportunity to take control of the match as it led by as many as five in the second set. Kills by McKaila Rose and Jessica Mooney helped launch Albion to the early 5-1 lead and it led 12-7 when Jessica Konieczny knocked down a kill. Alma rallied to forge a tie at 14. Sasha Laykova terminated a couple of points and Molly Lark served up a pair of aces as Alma reeled off a seven-point run to seize a 23-16 lead.

Laykova scored three kills and served up two aces and Albion recorded five kills as Alma won the third set, 25-11.

Albion hit into a service error and three attack errors and three different Alma players produced kills as the Scots scored seven in a row to pull away for a 25-15 win in the fourth set.

Lauren Outwater and Rose finished with six kills apiece for Albion.

Albion returns to Kresge Gymnasium Saturday afternoon for matches against Olivet College and Earlham College. The first serve as the Albion-Olivet match is set for 12 p.m.
