ALBION, Mich. – Albion College had trouble slowing the Kalamazoo College hitters as it suffered a three-set loss (25-19, 25-17, 25-18) to its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival.
Kalamazoo hit .240 and .273 in the opening two sets. Nya Greenstone led the Hornets with 13 kills and Kelsey Hill added 10.
Albion never mounted a consistent attack. The Britons hit .084 for the match with 23 kills and 15 errors in 95 attacks. Lauren Outwater scored nine kills and two blocks. Stephanie Thurner contributed seven kills and three blocks.
Dana Devito served up aces on consecutive points as Kalamazoo scored four in a row to take a 12-9 lead in the first set.
Thurner produced two kills as Albion forged a 5-2 lead early in the second set. Kaela Van Til helped Kalamazoo overcome the deficit by producing kills on consecutive points and she was serving when the Hornets ripped off a four-point run to seize a 12-9 lead.
Kalamazoo led throughout the third set. Greenstone pounded three kills and Alex Gothard served an ace as the Hornets built a 5-1 lead.
Next up for Albion is a Wednesday home date with Saint Mary's College. The first serve is set for 7 p.m. at Kresge Gymnasium.
