Britons Make Quick Work Of Volleyball Rivals

ALBION, Mich. - Albion College made quick work of its volleyball rivals Tuesday night, defeating Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Kalamazoo College and non-league foe Grace Bible College in three sets.

Albion d. Kalamazoo 25-17, 25-15, 25-18

Stephanie Thurner hit .737 with 14 kills in 19 attempts and the Britons served up 11 aces. Ami Milligan and Kristin Yeager served up three aces apiece, and Monica Shuk had two.

Albion started slowly, trailing 8-3 in the first set. Thurner terminated four points as Albion scored nine in a row to seize a 17-11 lead.

Albion scored four in a row to take a 5-2 lead and it never trailed from there in the second set. Lauren Outwater terminated consecutive points and Yeager served an ace as the Britons extended the margin to eight at 19-11.

A three-point run boosted Albion to a 5-2 lead in the third set and the Britons never looked back.

Albion d. Grace Bible 25-13, 25-23, 25-20

Emily Buckelew scored a career-high 13 kills as she hit .407 for the match. Angela Adams, Jessica Mooney and Yeager served up two aces apiece.

Albion, now 13-8 overall, begins the second round of the MIAA schedule Friday night at Hope.
