ALBION, Mich. – Taylor Rosenthal and Marie Pregenzer combined for 33 kills in the middle of the court Tuesday night, but Albion College didn't get enough production on the outside in a five set loss to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Alma College.
Albion hit .306 (15-4-36) in cruising to a 25-14 decision in the third set that gave it a 2-1 lead in the match.
The Britons gave the momentum right back losing the fourth set, 25-16.
The teams traded the first 16 points of the fifth set. Alma scored five in a row to pull out to a 13-8 lead and it ended the match with an exclamation point on a Sara Majerle kill and a Brooke Mason ace.
Rosenthal achieved her highest hitting percentage in a MIAA match this season, .484, with a season-high 17 kills.
Pregenzer was effective all-around, finishing with 16 kills, five blocks and two aces. She moved into fifth place on Albion's all-time blocks list with 189.
Kelsey Gustafson was Albion's most effective performer on the outside, finishing with 12 kills.
Albion (10-6 overall, and 3-1 against MIAA rivals) travels to Grand Rapids on Friday for a match against the nationally-ranked squad from Calvin College.
