ALBION, Mich. – Albion College managed one run Friday afternoon as it was swept by Alma College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association baseball doubleheader at Frank Joranko Field. Alma won the games by scores of 2-1 and 5-0.
Albion squandered a scoring opportunity in the first. Lindemann was hit by a pitch and Michael Fischbach drew a walk, giving the Britons a pair of base runners with one out. Albion's next two batters were unable to hit the ball out of the infield.
Alma struck with two out in its half of the second. Jose Corniel singled and scored on Adam Thoryk's double.
Albion forged a 1-1 tie in the fourth. Fischbach hit a leadoff single and he advanced to second on an errant throw to first on a pickoff attempt. Marowski picked up Albion's only RBI of the day with a single.
Alex Peczynski drove in Alma's game-winning run with a fifth-inning double.
Alma scored a run in the third and it tacked on two more runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The Scots top three hitters – Yoan De La Rosa, Peczynski and Doug Walters – combined for four runs.
Albion (18-20 overall, 11-15 MIAA) was eliminated from contention for the MIAA Tournament with the losses. The Britons can climb to .500 for the season if it sweeps the Sunday doubleheader at Alma.
