ALBION, Mich. – Shortstop Joe Turnbull hit a pair of doubles and drove in six runs and first baseman/pitcher Jack Wyman slugged a double and a homerun and drove in four runs as Albion College split a baseball doubleheader with Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Hope College.
Game 1: Hope 8, Albion 4
Leadoff hitter Jordon Fairchild drew three walks, collected a hit and scored three times for Hope. Mason Opple drove in three runs and JP Batts and Danny Carrasco had two RBI each.
Hope led 7-0 after 4 ½ innings before Albion picked up two runs in the fifth and two more runs in the sixth. John Butler was credited with two RBI when he reached on an error in the sixth.
Game 2: Albion 15, Hope 5
Turnbull and Wyman drove in two runs each as Albion scored six times in the third inning and the Britons won going away.
Pitcher Mitch Shedlowsky benefitted from the run support, with a line of two runs on three hits and five walks over six innings to get credit for the win. Austin Carr worked the final three innings to get credit for the save.
Albion and Hope are scheduled to complete the series with a 2 o'clock Friday doubleheader in Holland.
