ALBION, Mich. – The Albion College softball team completed its weekend break from Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action with 4-0 and 6-0 losses to North Park University at Dempsey Field.
Hayley Jackson hit a two-run homerun in the first inning and that was all the offense North Park would need.
The Vikings added two more runs in the second inning. Sam Camilleri and Kylee O'Connor hit back-to-back singles with one out. They advanced a base on a groundout. Camilleri scored on a wild pitch and O'Connor scored on a fielding error by the Briton pitcher.
Albion had two runners on base in the fourth inning. Morgan Deckrow hit an infield single and Grace Connolly followed with a walk. The Britons were unable to hit the ball out of the infield from there and did not score.
North Park led throughout, scoring a first inning run. Ellie Manderfeld hit a leadoff double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundball by Amara Leith.
Atorena Michael drove in two runs in the second, and Rachael Feazelle added a pair of RBI singles.
Albion hit the ball hard, but could not manage many hits. Kacy Rossi and Deckrow hit singles for the Britons.
It will be MIAA action from now on for Albion. The Britons have a 3 p.m. Wednesday home doubleheader against Saint Mary's College.
Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
