Muns powers Albion to MIAA victory

ANGOLA, Ind. – Darcy Muns scored six points – matching her season high – to power Albion College to an 18-5 victory over Trine University on the opening day of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's lacrosse action.

A junior from Lake Orion, Mich., Muns scored four goals and dished out two assists. Muns was efficient, scoring on all four of her shots on goal.

Muns received offensive support from Chrystelle Lopez (three goals, two assists), Destiny Okon (three goals), Carly Schwarz (three goals, one assist), and Abby Sheklow (two goals).

Ashley Iglesias, a defender, produced her first goal of the season.

Jade Barrett and Marah Ranger also scored goals for Albion.

Albion never trailed in the game, scoring twice in the opening minute. The Britons won the opening draw and Muns assisted on Barrett's goal 13 seconds into the contest. Muns scored 30 seconds later.

Schwarz scored the final two goals of the first half as Albion led, 12-3, at halftime.

Lopez scored three minutes into the second half as Albion kept the clock running the rest of the game.

Albion dominated possession, controlling the draw 18 out of 25 times and causing 11 turnovers. Barrett and Okon won five draw controls each. Marisa DeCamp, Okon, Sheklow, and Kristine Taladiar were all credited with causing two turnovers.

Albion, 5-3 overall, will play at home at noon Sunday against Augustana College.
