OLIVET, Mich. – Marie Pregenzer hit .333 with 13 kills and Taylor Rosenthal and Kelsey Gustafson also reached double figures in kills as Albion College earned a 25-21, 25-19, 25-18 sweep over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Olivet College Wednesday night.
Setter Grace VanDorn made the adjustments to keep the hitters away from the Olivet block, and she was rewarded with her eighth double-double of the season (38 assists and 10 digs).
"We were extremely consistent all around," Albion Head Coach Kristin de St. Aubin said after her team won its fourth in a row to improve to 10-5 overall and 3-0 in matches against MIAA rivals. "Our passing led the way and our sideline did a great job of helping us keep momentum."
Pregenzer terminated two points and Gustafson tacked on a kill and a service aces as Albion ripped off an 8-1 run to take control of the first set at 18-11.
Gustafson scored two more kills and Olivet committed four attack errors as Albion went on a 6-1 run to seize a 12-7 lead in the second set.
The third set was tied at 14, but Chloe Webber came up with two kills and Pregenzer served an ace as Albion scored six in a row to pull away.
Rosenthal finished with two blocks (a solo and assist) to move her career total to 228 and into a tie with Keri Slane (2005-2008) for second on Albion's all-time list.
"Taylor has grown so much as a middle blocker," de St. Aubin said. "We ask her to do so much for us offensively, but our blocking lineups were great tonight. I am excited she is continuing to improve as a blocker."
Libero Monica Shuk collected a team-high 15 digs in the match.
Albion has nearly a week to prepare for its next MIAA match, an Oct. 2 home date with Alma College.
